Fall Employment Opportunities at MVA

Lifeguard_1Mission Valley Aquatics is seeking qualified applicants for various positions starting in September. As we look to expand our aquatic programming this fall and winter, a key component will be meeting the staffing needs those programs require.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR

A swim instructor’s primary responsibility is to deliver instruction to students of aquatic programming. Ideal candidate will have experience as a teacher and competitive swimmer. American Red Cross WSI and Lifeguard certifications are preferred, but not essential. Patience, enthusiasm and positive reinforcement teaching skills required. Experience as a school teacher and special education background is a plus.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
– Prepare lesson and work with fellow instructors to maintain curriculum consistency.
– Supervise students during lesson; ensure student safety while in the water.
– Communicate with parents about student progress and requirements for success.
– Full and part time hours available, seven days a week.
– Schedule will be discussed at interview.

Applicant must have knowledge of:
– Mission Valley Aquatics’ vision and fundraising efforts.
– Local history, demographics and diversity.

Applicant must have skills including:
– Understanding and interpreting regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must know how to swim.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Current Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Interest in obtaining Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification and swim team coaching positions. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees and general public.

LIFEGUARD

A lifeguard’s primary responsibility is to ensure patron safety and protect lives. *Daytime availability preferred.

*MVA is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification course this September. For more information, CLICK HERE.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
– Supervise patrons of the aquatic center.
– Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
– Enforce facility rules and regulations and educate patrons about them.
– Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies.
– Complete accident reports and submit them to the proper person.
– Keep pool decks and locker rooms clean and safe for patrons.

Applicant must have knowledge of:

Applicant must have skills including:
– Understanding and interpreting regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Must know how to swim.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Interest in pool management, water safety instruction, assistant swim team coaching positions. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees and general public.

 MAINTENANCE PERSON

The custodian is responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of the pool, locker rooms and lobby areas. *Requires regular evening availability with potential to increase responsibilities as needed.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
– Vacuums the pool and offices.
– Scrubs the pool decks, locker rooms and lobby floors.
– Cleans pool fixtures such as diving boards and starting blocks.
– Makes minor repairs to the facility.
– Cleans and stocks locker rooms and rest rooms.
– Maintains air and water temperature.
– Works with contractors, including plumbers, electricians and carpenter.

Applicant must have knowledge of:
– Cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
– Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services Rules and Regulations for Pools.
– Aquatic safety considerations and OSHA standards and guideline.

Applicant must have skills including:
– Mechanical aptitude, ingenuity and organizational skills.
– Knowledge of required maintenance for an indoor aquatic facility.
– Understanding and interpreting regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma, a minimum of three years employed as a custodian. Must possess or be able to possess a valid Montana driver’s license and know how to swim.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Three years experience maintaining an aquatic facility. Interest in obtaining certification as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or YMCA Pool Operator with knowledge of equipment and the operation of aquatic facilities. Interest in lifeguarding, water safety, CPR and first-aid. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees and general public.

 FRONT DESK PERSON

The front desk person is responsible for welcoming and checking in patrons to the aquatic center, communicating information about current aquatic programming, answering the phone, completing transactions, cleanliness and maintenance of the lobby area and party room. *Daytime availability preferred.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
– Welcoming in and checking in patrons to the aquatic center.
– Communicating information about current aquatic programming.
– Answering the phone.
– Completing transactions.
– Cleanliness and maintenance of the lobby area and party room.

Applicant must have knowledge of:
– Mission Valley Aquatics’ vision and fundraising efforts.
– Local history, demographics and diversity.
– Computers, printers, faxes, phones.
– Cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.

Applicant must have skills including:
– Customer service and phone etiquette.
– General computer usage and organizational skills.
– Knowledge of printing and copying.
– Understanding and interpreting regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience at an aquatic facility or similar customer service position. Certifications or interest in lifeguarding, water safety, CPR and first-aid. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees and general public.
